What is Neonatal Opioid Withdrawal Syndrome (NOWS)?

  • A condition when a baby withdraws from opiates (prescription or illicit) used during pregnancy.

  • Also known as Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS)

 

How can I prepare for a baby with NOWS?

  • Attend the Reading Hospital Neonatal Opioid Withdrawal Syndrome class.

    • to prepare for the birth of the baby with NOWS

    • to help you understand the care the baby will receive while in the hospital.

    • to help you connect with resources in the community.

    • to help you understand the baby’s needs once you are home.

  • Caregivers

 

When are the classes and what time?

  • The classes take place the 3rd Monday in Jan, March, May, July, Sept, and Nov

    • 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

 

Where are the classes?

  • Reading Hospital Conference Center located at Reading Hospital 5th Avenue entrance.
